Description: Sudan’s Foreign Ministry has issued a statement accusing Kenya of supplying arms to the Rapid Support Forces through the United Arab Emirates. The war in Sudan has been plagued by foreign interference from countries such as Turkey, Egypt, UAE and Iran with Kenya joining the fray further aggravating the violent confrontations. Armed confrontations have upsurged in recent days with the Sudanese army targeting the Al – Majlad Hospital claiming to have targeted RSF militants using the medical facility as a regional base of operations. The war has caused one of the most devastating humanitarian crises, displacing more than 13 million people causing nationwide famine.

Impact: The war in Sudan originating from a power struggle emphasizes the interconnectivity between conflicts and geopolitical interests. Kenya is facing nationwide civil and political crisis while being heavily invested in foreign wars sponsoring oppositional militants and the formation of their parallel government. The conflict is entering its third year and shows indication of spreading threatening the regional situation which is further aggravated by the political crisis and armed confrontations in South Sudan and the current upsurge in terrorist activities throughout the Sahel region. With foreign actors pouring arms, logistical and political support through various channels, the war in Sudan would persist as no concrete peaceful resolution or significant diplomatic engagement has emerged.
