Description: Incumbent Danish Prime Minister, Mette Frederiksen, would form a new government after stalled negotiations with coalition partners. The new coalition would include Frederiksen’s Social Democrats, the Moderates, the Greens and the Social Liberals with the coalition’s political platform and upcoming ministerial positions to be published in the upcoming days. Frederiksen’s initial moves would include defiant resistance to the US over Greenland, combating domestic inflation problems and expanding welfare public services. Frederiksen suffered the most grueling defeat for the Danish Social Democrats in Mar, however, she successfully managed to navigate the negotiations crisis by bringing smaller parties from different political camps to the fold in order to bolster domestic support.

Impact: Frederiksen’s return to the premiership would likely bring plethora of domestic economic and welfare reforms aimed at securing the wider political coalition and strengthening of key aspects in the foreign policy portfolio such as continued support for Ukraine and an even more aggressive stance on Greenland. The Prime Minister is largely supported by Greenlandic politicians which also solidified control of the island on the back of sovereignty defiance against the US which likely signals a continued close bilateral partnership in the long – term. Potential risks for the newly formed administration likely lay in the implementation timeframe of the domestic reforms and the continued posturing towards the US which could pressure Denmark towards some forms of concessions. Negotiations on Greenland are still ongoing, which likely leaves Frederiksen with maneuvering space for a vast variety of diplomatic measures while domestically, the smaller coalition partners are expected to push progressive reforms quite rapidly.
