Description: SAF launched an offensive to reopen the El – Obeid – Dilling road which involved several hundred troops with fighting concentrated in Kazgil, Hamadi and El Debeibat, a major RSF stronghold. The battle over the El Obeid – Dilling corridor has been heavily contested with both parties claiming overwhelming success. The corridor is important for SAF’s regional offensives which have been previously repelled by the RSF through guerilla tactics, using mine warfare, regular ambushes and surprise counterattacks. One day prior, the US Treasury Department imposed sanctions on Colombian companies and individuals accused of recruiting mercenaries to fight alongside the RSF in the civil war. Germany has stated that the conference in Berlin managed to consolidate $1.7 billion which would be used for humanitarian purposes in Sudan.
Impact: SAF’s offensive in Kordofan state likely delivered no tactical supremacy to the army as grueling fighting and video footage have demonstrated. Both warring parties still lack the means of overwhelming one another militarily, while RSF’s adoption of guerilla tactics for disrupting logistical networks would likely enable the paramilitary group to become advantageous in the long – term control over key supply lines in Kordofan state. The budget projected for humanitarian aid in Sudan within the conference in Berlin represents a significant diplomatic achievement that would likely be difficult to materialize, considering that all humanitarian corridors in the country are under control of either the RSF or the SAF and used as logistical waypoints for delivering weapons, equipment and troops. The war is highly likely to intensify in the upcoming period with sporadic upsurges of violence and regional armed confrontations over key supply lines, which ultimately aggravates the humanitarian crisis and discourages any diplomatic engagement.
