Description: US Vice – President JD Vance visited the National Guard troops, and the Marines deployed to the city of Los Angeles tasked to assist the local law enforcement in subduing the violent anti – immigration protests. Vance used the occasion to announce that the troops would remain in Los Angeles for a longer period of time in fear of the protests reigniting and causing civil unrest of larger proportions. Vance defended the decision of the Court of Appeals, which last week approved for the National Guard and the Marine troops deployed in Los Angeles to remain under President Trump’s executive control. The Vice President also criticized the State of California Governor, Gavin Newsom, of crippling the city’s law enforcement agencies and causing disruptions in their cooperation with the National Guard and the Marines.

Impact: The US anti – immigration crisis continues to persist with renewed animosities between the federal and local government indicating a move towards a larger civil and political crisis. The distancing in narrative from the local and federal government coupled with the troop deployment remain the city’s largest challenge in approaching a potential solution to the immigration issue. The legal battle over the deployment of troops remains unresolved as federal and local legal teams are applying pressure on the local courts through constant appeals and counter appeals. Los Angeles became a political battleground between Newsom, Trump and now JD Vance who was also suspected of having interests in running for President of the US in the next 2028 elections. The number of organized demonstrations has significantly reduced since the No Kings protests, however, the lack of legal and political initiative continues to represent a potential risk of reigniting violent civil unrest.
