US: Thousands Protest Trump’s National Guard Deployment in Washington

Description: US President Donald Trump, signed an executive order transferring governance and control powers of Washington’s law enforcement under federal mandate. The executive order sparked large public disapproval and incited protests across the US capital as the local government filed a suit against the lawfulness of Trump’s executive order. Trump deployed more than 800 National Guard troops in the capital which would reportedly protect federal buildings and assist the local police forces in tackling migration and crime. The move hasn’t been statistically supported as the US capital has had lower crime and homicide rates than other larger American cities and much lower rates than in Trump’s first presidential term. Political opponents and the general population of Washington D.C. has labeled the move as monopolization of federal power and exertion of unlawful control over local government capacities.

Impact: Trump’s alleged crackdown on immigration and his illegal broadening of federal jurisdictions are solicitating nationwide public upheaval and threaten the country’s internal stability. The US President remained the focal point in the controversies surrounding the Epstein case and is experiencing a drastic decline in approval rates and popularity due to his effective abuse of presidential powers. The administration’s aggressive approach towards combating and tackling illegal immigration would further aggravate the nationwide response as more protests in several cities have been reportedly announced. The constitutional crisis in the US is expected to gradually intensify as the Trump administration continues to implement illegal methods and policies in exercising power and outlining their political goals.
