Description: More than 7 million people attended the No Kings protests across the US, expressing their disapproval towards the policies conducted and implemented by the Trump administration. The protests surpassed the Jun turnout when more than 3 million people were attending while no violence was reported despite the massive numbers of protesters and the enhanced level of police and National Guard troops across the country. The No Kings protests have branded themselves as a civil movement aimed at holding the Trump administration accountable for numerous controversial domestic and foreign policies which are aimed at strengthening presidential powers, centralizing the political power around the presidency while stifling democratic rights and liberties. Numerous statements from the protesters resonated across supporters in the US and criticized Trump’s tariff policies, violent anti – immigration policies, the federal job cuts and the government lockdown, media censorship as well as foreign policy moves such as the attack on Iran in Jun or the current tensions with Venezuela.
Impact: The No Kings protests have become the first line of defiance for the political camps such as the Democrats and the Liberals which are strenuously opposing the extrajudicial policies of the Trump administration. The Republican party currently reigns supreme across both the Senate and the Congress while the Democratic party with losing the presidential elections has found little to no margins for error in mounting their opposition before entering midterm elections in several states across the country. The protests represent a favorable development for the Democratic party which is desperately attempting to climb the ranks in order to stand up to the Republicans on crucial domestic and foreign issues. Currently the impact of the protests is considerably limited bar from raising the country’s political consciousness and creating favorable conditions for the oppositional parties.
