Description: Gunman using a bolt action sniper rifle targeted the ICE center in Dallas, Texas, killing one person and critically wounding two other. Joshua Jahn was later identified as the armed assailant which according to initial reports indiscriminately targeted both civilians and law enforcement. Jahn was discovered dead shortly after the attack as federal authorities presumed, he took his own life after firing at ICE detainees, civilians and members of the local law enforcement. The attack happened weeks after the deadly shooting of conservative influencer Charlie Kirk and in a period of time when the Trump administration is enforcing stricter immigration control and deportation policies. The US President and Vice – President strongly condemned the attack, blaming it on radical fractions from the country’s political left and calling for the cessation of violence that explicitly targets members of the US law enforcement agencies.
Impact: The Dallas shooting becomes the newest deadly tragedy in the US, which is experiencing a growing constitutional and political crisis on a national level. Trump’s immigration policies have contributed towards the escalation of inter-ethnic and intra political tensions in the country, with violent and deadly tragedies constantly being politicized. The level of political violence in the US has rapidly grown with the country facing numerous domestic issues with immigration taking the primary point, becoming a major sticking point in Trump’s domestic policies. Deadly events such as this would persist in the US over the long – term period raising concerns about public safety, free speech as well as politically and ethnically inspired violence.
