Description: Several non – governmental and humanitarian organizations have reported that after more than 500 days of siege, the city of El Fasher in the Darfur province has become uninhabitable due to the devastating level of violence in the Sudanese civil war. Medical facilities, refugee camps and residential areas have been constantly and intentionally targeted by the RSF which is committing crimes against humanity in the city by attempting to expel the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) from their last stronghold in western Sudan. Satellite imagery obtained from the Yale University research lab has illustrated the immense level of devastation which was confirmed by witness testimonies of individuals that managed to escape the city. RSF and the SAF are engaged in a two-and-a-half-year civil war mired by foreign influence and atrocities that supersede any classification of crimes against humanity.

Impact: The city of El Fasher, central to the RSF’s campaign in the Darfur region, is experiencing unimaginable levels of humanitarian devastation which has consistently been ignored by the international community. Both warring parties have been accused of committing atrocities in the civil war as neither side has had the military capacity to overwhelm the other in a civil war that has so far claimed the lives of more than 180 thousand people and displaced more than 12 million people. The latest quadrilateral peace proposal has been renounced by both sides which are fueled and poised to continue fighting. The unimportant role and the level of insignificance of international organizations is emphasized through the crisis in Sudan with the UN being incapable of intervening due to internal political feuds between global powers and the lack of executive force and funding. The civil war is slowly entering its third year with no indications of slowing down and territorial partitions of a war thorn country emerging as the logical resolution in the long term.
