Description: Sixteen trucks pertaining to UN’s World Food Program organization came under fire in the besieged city of El – Fasher which represented the last stronghold of the Sudanese military in the Darfur region. The aid trucks were attacked by drones, and all the vital supplies were destroyed with the UN reporting that no casualties were sustained during the attacks. The RSF blamed the Sudanese military for the attacks while the military stated that RSF has constantly blocked the entry of humanitarian aid in regions where it was desperately needed. More than 300 thousand civilians are under siege from RSF militants in the city, facing unprecedented levels of humanitarian disaster and are victims of constant attacks. The UN has launched a probe investigating both warring parties in the country which have been accused of committing war crimes and other atrocities.
Impact: The Sudanese military and the RSF continue to weaponize and deliberately block the entry of humanitarian aid in critical regions causing substantial deterioration of the humanitarian disaster in the country. Constant clashes between the warring parties have made the entry of humanitarian aid in the country impossible, as the absence of security guarantees and humanitarian corridors persist as the main logistical problems. The war is further fueled by foreign interference from state actors such as the UAE, Kenya, Turkey, and Saudi Arabia, while mediation efforts for a potential ceasefire or peace initiative have been consistently compromised and unsustainable, especially with the formation of RSF’s parallel government and the military’s refusal to engage in diplomatic reconciliation with the militant group. Under the current combat and warfare circumstances, the country is facing further territorial dissolution and potential for the formation of two parallel governments within two separate regions within the current borders of the country.
