Israel and Iran: Iran Rejects Ceasefire Proposal as Tehran Residents Start Evacuation

Description: Israel and Iran continued exchanging barrages of aerial attacks with the war entering its fifth day as Netanyahu and then US President Donald Trump warned residents in Tehran to start evacuating in crucial areas of the city. Trump attended the G7 Summit in Canada when he expediently left due to addressing the Middle Eastern crisis and according to him something much more important. The death toll rises by the day as Israel and Iran continue to execute attacks which so far, with the exclusion of Israel’s elimination of the Iranian government and military echelon, have struck civilian and infrastructure targets. Israel has the aerial dominion over Iranian airspace as Israeli jets have conducted numerous bombing runs targeting Iran’s nuclear enrichment sites and critical energy infrastructure. Iran threatened yesterday that its parliament might pass a bill which would force the Islamic Republic to abandon the nuclear non – proliferation treaty which by many is considered as an administrative backstop which provides international guarantees for Iran to not develop an atomic bomb. Officials in mediating countries such as Oman and Qatar have stated that the sixth round of nuclear talks is postponed indefinitely while Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated that Iran would reproach the idea once Israel ceases its bombardments and targeted assassinations.

Impact: The fifth day of the war was encompassed in more attack exchanges as Israel continues to push for US direct involvement. Netanyahu has already pummeled the Iranian regime into its worst state of governance in modern day history and would aim at pushing the optics, while appealing to the Iranian opposition, towards regime change. The idea has been floated ever since the start of the war, however, under the present conditions still seems improbable as most of the Iranian public perceives Israel as the aggressor. Under the current conditions, the US is highly likely to push towards an initial ceasefire which could lead towards broader diplomatic horizons such as renewed nuclear talks, and a potential framework which would ensure the two countries wouldn’t instigate instability and warfare in pursuing their regional ambitions. Iran finds itself considerably defeated on all levels, as the Islamic regime would eventually be forced to compromise on several disputed subjects, as Iran has so far only been supported through public statements rather than concrete military assistance. The war is expected to continue in the short to mid – term as evident direct and indirect efforts have been made from various influential actors, in order for both countries to cease hostilities.
